Grow Long Beach Career Pathways

The Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach’s Grow Long Beach Career Pathways concept enhances collaboration and maximizes career entry opportunities for local students. With a focus on bolstering cohesion, the Mayor’s Fund facilitates collective impact discussions with key workforce and education stakeholders, including the Long Beach Unified School District, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, Long Beach City College, CalState Long Beach, the Mayor’s Office, City Office of Youth Development, and others in alignment with the Mayor Richardson’s Grow Long Beach Initiative.

Grow Long Beach is a multi-pronged economic development strategy championed by the Long Beach Mayor and City focused on bolstering the success of emerging business sectors and industries that show promise for continued growth including Aerospace and Aviation; Healthcare; Ports and Logistics; Housing and Education; Public Service; and Arts, Culture and Tourism.

By convening partners, aligning efforts, and developing programing to meet unmet youth engagement needs, the Mayor’s Fund is better able to articulate the expansive array of engagement opportunities available to local youth relative to each of these industries.  With improved identification of the opportunities, the Mayor’s Fund and its partners are able to

• increase the number of local youth seeking complimentary areas of study in college;

• increase youth access to promising career pathways that expand economic mobility;

• improve connectivity of local students with industry professionals;

• better identify barriers to attaining meaningful workforce engagement and training experiences; and

• identify collective impact solutions that can be implemented collaboratively to address gaps and meet unmet needs.

  We focus on preparing youth for the transition from education to the workforce by providing career exploration panels, supporting expanded internship opportunities, and improving alignment of community-wide programming.

  Pathways to Success: By providing resources and opportunities for college and career readiness, we ensure youth have the tools to navigate their future careers successfully.
